Vector Machines develops autonomous navigation software for self-driving machines, such as mowing robot carriers for use in solar parks, nurseries, and greenhouses. The aim of the project is to combine existing sensor technologies including GPS/GNSS/RTK, LiDAR, and Vision into one reliable fusion signal. This enables accurate positioning under all conditions, even where GNSS alone is insufficient.

The project focuses on the development of a SLAM system (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) supplemented with AI, so that machines can learn to orient themselves in unknown environments. Additionally, it is being investigated how Edge Computing can efficiently process the enormous data streams from sensors, without heavy and costly onboard computers.

The results of this project will be marketed through a newly established company together with northern partners, making the developed knowledge available to the broader market of autonomous machines in the green sector as well as in logistics and internal transport.
